Grandmaster Jy Din Shakya

Grandmaster Jy Din Shakya was one of Master Hsu Yun's Dharma heirs. He founded the Hsu Yun temple in Honolulu, the oldest Buddhist temple in Hawaii where he served as Abbot until his passing on March 13, 2003. At his suggestion. on November 8, 1997, the first internet ministry was created, our Zen Buddhist Order of Hsu Yun, which has been dedicated to preserving and disseminating the teachings of China's greatest saint. Grandmaster Jy Din has contributed his memoirs on this Web site in The Teachings of Master Xu (Hsu) Yun .

Abbot Yin Din Shakya

Yin Din Shakya, OHY, is a disciple of Grandmaster Fa Hui and was ordained at Hsu Hun Temple in Honolulu. He is a minority owner and Vice-President of a technology company with worldwide sales. Reverend Yin Din resides a small distance from his body in New Jersey. His initial studies in philosophy and theology were with the Benedictine Order, and he contributes articles of self-perceived insight to our pages as a balm for his self-inflicted wounds. Ming Zhen Shakya Venerable Ming Zhen Shakya, OHY, (formerly Chuan YuanShakya), is a fully ordained priest of Nan Hua Si, (Cao Xi), in China, the monastery founded by Sixth Patriarch Hui Neng. As Chuan Yuan, a disciple of Abbot Wei Yin of Nan Hua, she was the first American to be ordained in China since the Communist revolution. Upon Abbot Wei Yin's death, she returned to China and became Ming Zhen, a disciple of Abbot Fo Yuan of Yun Men (Ummon) Monastery. In 1988 She founded the Nan Hua Zen Buddhist Society which became the Sangha-parent of ZBOHY's Internet ministry. She has been associated with the Vedanta Society for twenty-seven years. Rev. Ming Zhen, a frequent lecturer on Zen and on its relationship to the Martial Arts, has contributed numerous essays and books on Zen, many of which can be found on this website. EDITOR@ZATMA.org

 

Yin Zhao Shakya Master (DaShi )Yin Zhao, OHY, an original member of the Nan Hua Zen Buddhist Society and Corporate President of the Zen Buddhist Order of Hsu Yun, was ordained at Fan Yun temple and elevated to master in the internet ministry by Grandmaster Fa Hui. He writes articles for private distribution on esoteric practices of Right-Hand Zen and teaches advanced meditation techniques privately to selected students. Yin Shan Shakya

Yin Shan Shakya, OHY, ZATMA Personnel Director, is a disciple of Grandmaster Fa Hui Shakya. A teacher, he is currently finishing course work for a Ph.D. in Philosophy and Religion, with an emphasis on Chinese Buddhism. Reverend Yin Shan, based on his former work in herpetology, is the author of articles on the symbolism of the serpent in religion. He will be elevated to the rank of master at our next ordination ceremony. YSS@ZATMA.org

Fa Ming Shakya, OHY, a long time practitioner of Zen, lives in Bucharest, Romania, and serves as webmaster of our Romanian website. Chuan Yuan ShakyaChuan Yuan Shakya, OHY is a disciple of Jy Din Shakya, and was ordained in Honolulu at Hsu Yun temple. Chuan Cheng Shakya

Master (Da Shi) Chuan Sheng, OHY, is the founder and Pastor of Lohan Temple and director of the Lohan School of Shaolin, a meditation and martial arts' study center in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he teaches and holds Buddhist services. He can be seen in a tai ji quan video on this website. A disciple of Grandmaster Jy Din, he was ordained at Hsu Yun temple in Honolulu. A former hospice chaplain, Master Chuan Sheng now counsels families and individuals on coping with bereavement issues. DSCS@ZATMA.org

 

Chuan Cheng Shakya was fully ordained at Nan Hua Si Monastery, Shao Guan, Guang Dong Province, China, in l994. She resides in Maui, Hawaii where she is works in the Human Resources field. She is a counselor and spiritual advisor to persons in alcohol recovery and is also active in suicide prevention programs. Reverend Chuan Cheng teaches meditation privately to troubled individuals and also to small groups of practitioners. CCSH@ZATMA.org

Fa Li Shakya

Chuan Chao Shakya, OHY, is the current Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Zen Buddhist Order of Hsu Yun and the president of the Nan Hua Zen Buddhist Society. A disciple of Grandmaster Jy Din, he was ordained at Hsu Yun temple in Honolulu. Active as both a Dharma teacher to his sangha in Las Vegas and to his worldwide internet ministry, he also writes articles of interest on employing Zen's principles in daily life. He holds a master's degree in Archaeology and currently does field work in the Great Basin and Mojave Desert area. CCS@ZATMA.org

 

Sensei Fa Li Shakya was the first president of the Nan Hua Zen Buddhist Society, ZBOHY's parent sangha. Reverend Fa Li was ordained in March 2005 at the Lohan Temple in Las Vegas. He is the founder of Zen Men Running Ministry, a sangha of seasoned joggers who deliver food and support to the homeless. A personal security specialist, he teaches martial arts' defensive tactics to law enforcement agencies, and testifies as a forensic expert. SFL@ZATMA.org

Fa Jun Shakya

 

Chuan Kung Shakya

Fa Jun Shakya, OHY, is webmaster of our Italian website. Ordained while still a student at the University of Bologna, Italy, he has lived in the United States and is fluent in both English and Italian.. An accomplished martial artist, he has begun a program of advanced meditation techniques and is studying early martial arts forms including Kalaripayattu of India, Gung Fu of China, and Capoeira of Brazil in order to develop a synthesis between static meditation forms and action methodologies. Chuan Kung Shakya, OHY, a disciple of Grandmaster Jy Din, was ordained at Hsu Yun temple in Honolulu. A teacher of yoga and of vegetarian nutrition, Reverend Chuan Kung holds a master's degree in mathematics from UNLV, and has done additional math study in New Zealand. She is presently obtaining her master's degree in Fine Arts from Howard University. Her paintings have been exhibited in numerous galleries. CKS@ZATMA.org

 Zheng Fo Shakya

Yin Dao Shakya, a disciple of Master Fat Wai, was ordained at Hsu Yun Temple in Hawaii. As pastor and spiritual counselor for a hospice, he headed the bereavement department for three years. Presently he continues to offer spiritual counseling for grief recovery to individuals and families. He also teaches Qi Gong, guided meditation, and spiritual growth through 'Zen and Daoism at the Lohan Temple in Las Vegas. Yindaoshakya@ZATMA.org

 

Zheng Fo Shakya was ordained at the Lohan Temple in Las Vegas, Nevada, in March, 2005. She is a disciple of Master Yin Zhao of our Order. A PhD candidate in geology, Reverend Zheng Fo teaches Zen Buddhism privately and is also officially listed as a volunteer Zen teacher in the Nevada Prison system. ZFS@ZATMA.ORG

Artist and teacher of Zen, Reverend Yao Feng is currently developing a ministry for teaching Buddhist values to Children through his artwork. He resides in Oregon.

Fa Xin Shakya is a past member of the Diamond Sangha of Honolulu, and is presently active with the poetry oriented Pacific Zen Institute of the San Francisco Bay area. Upasaka Yuan Zhen is the representative of our order in the People's Republic of China. A diisciple of Abbot Fo Yuen of Yun Men Monastery, she has given invaluable assistance to those members of our order who have been ordained in China. For nearly twenty years she has been a steadfast supporter of our ministry and a close personal friend and advisor to Ming Zhen Shakya. Upasaka Yuan Zhen resides in both Guang Zhou and Shao Guan.

 

Upasaka Yao Xin received the Bodhisattva Precepts at Yun Men Monastery in the People's Republic of China. As Technical Director, Yao Xin serves as Advisor and Web Developer for ZBOHY. He resides in Canada in the Vancouver area and is an active Zen practitioner. Additionally, he has contributed artwork to our website. UYX@ZATMA.org

Upasaka Fa Xian received Bodhisattva precepts at Yun Men Monastery in the People's Republic of China. He is Webmaster for the Chinese ZBOHY web site originating in Shao Guan (near both Nan Hua and Yun Men monasteries) in the People's Republic of China: A bicycle enthusiast, he operates an internet bike supply business serving an asian clientele. Upasaka Yao Xin (Robert Rhodes) has been part of the ZBOHY sangha since 1998. A native of Arkansas, he is a journalist, essayist and occasional poet now residing in Kansas, where he is often inspired to more diligent practice by the Vietnamese Buddhist community in Wichita. He is married with three children and is a longtime devotee of Chinese and Japanese poetry, old and new. He also paints, and his children plaster their rooms with examples of his misbegotten calligraphy.

Upasaka Fa Tian, an electrical engineer by profession, is joining ZBOHY as a regular contributor. He lives in Alabama and is scheduled to be ordained in Southern California this Fall.
