At the Beginning.

At the beginning, we are in the dark. We start out in the dark.
We don’t want to be in the dark, so we look forward towards
the next thing. Sadly, we realize it is not there. It’s a longing for
something to come and appear. We perpetually seek.
We forget to look for what we seek in the dark. We can’t see it,
so we give up. We settle for novelties. The newness of a thing is
shiny, so we settle for shiny, new things.

A spiritual seeker on his deathbed said to his teacher, “Come,
and let’s make something happen!” We can’t make it happen. We
can be ready.

We want to prepare for whatever it is. We look around us and
get ready for that something to show up. We sense a yearning to
be ready.

There’s a sense of wanting to express our yearning. We are born
with it, this sense of yearning. We’d like an appearance even one
in a disguise as long as we know it to be the something we seek.
The yearning presses in on us from all directions; but we can miss
it. We can mistake it for something other than what it is.
